‘What we learn to do, we learn by doing’
Aristotle
It is far too easy to make training a “tick-box” exercise driven by requirements of annual appraisal and peer pressure within departmental goals to please. We believe that the individual needs a personal development plan that is specific to their needs and not one that is cloned from a conveyer belt. Thankfully, our forward-thinking industry agrees with this philosophy and much more attention is now given to personal development than ever before.
Inevitably we can be led by trends yet most are borne out of a real desire to make progress. In addition to the blend of knowledge and skills mentioned earlier, we provide training that is novel and, most importantly, valuable to all concerned. What better way to illustrate this than by focusing on our industry as a Learning Industry and specialising in developing those people who facilitate learning.
Each specialised training event can be presented as either a one or two day programme, depending on your needs. Dates and Fees on application.
From delivering Presentation Skills to performing Training Needs Analysis, the role of the Trainer, Facilitator and Presenter is one of the most diverse in the business world. Delivery of learning itself needs to be relevant, engaging, dynamic and contemporary for it to be effective. Subsequently, you must have the skills to design and deliver effective training and also have the ability to inspire and motivate delegates. You are Leader, Coach, Mentor and Facilitator.
We "train the trainer" “train the facilitator” and “train the presenter” on every aspect of the discipline and these courses are globally recognised. The dedicated trainer, or facilitator of learning, and this may be a manager or leader who has training as part of their role function, often needs to see the bigger picture of training concepts and training realities in order to perform effectively whatever the stage.

Training Needs can typically be categorised as either a deficiency or as an opportunity. Deficiency paradigm: The need is defined as a lack of essential knowledge, skills or attitudes that prevent satisfactory performance. This deficiency prevents an individual taking on different or greater responsibilities and the result is diminished potential. Opportunity paradigm: The need is more closely linked to ambition. It is that which motivates keen focus, a desire to improve, and to achieve potential (whether known or unknown).
It is very easy to make TNA more complex than it needs to be. In the business world learning needs must be aligned to business requirements and to key success factors; only then can they be stripped down to the individual level of personal development. The process of identifying learning needs involves three main steps:
Assessing job requirements
Identifying existing knowledge, skills and attributes (or competencies)
Identifying gaps between requirements and competencies.
Gaps between requirements and existing employee capabilities may signal two kinds of needs, which brings us back to the paradigms defined above. Learning needs: Information or skills employees need to have to do their work but do not have. Motivation needs: Employees may not understand or agree with company priorities, be unwilling (or unable) to learn new skills, and may have a different learning agenda. Between the two and affecting both are environmental needs: The work environment may be so "uncomfortable" that people cannot work well, or they may not have the resources - time, money, equipment and supplies, help from others - they need to do the work properly and efficiently.
The TNA can involve many people (individual, manager, trainer) at many levels (personal, corporate) and cover many time scales (short-term, long-term). TNA has its own set of needs to be done properly. Understanding of the values of growth and progress is key. Ability to change is key. Agreement is key.
Phlexglobal offers the professional TNA service, at strategic and operational levels, for all staff, across all disciplines.
